Ferry MAKOURIA with hundreds of passengers, and vehicles on board, ran aground in shallows area called Sting Ray in the morning July 28, while en route from Wakenaam island to Parika port, mainland Guyana. Vessel was to be refloated with coming tide. Grounding could be caused by Master’s decision to sail through shallows notwithstanding low tide, because there was an ambulance on board with patient in need of urgent hospitalization.
