Cocaine bust on boxship MSC POH LIN. Master was recruited by mafia?

Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria, Italy, found on board of boxship MSC POH LIN 83 kilograms of cocaine, hidden in one of loaded containers, container didn’t have seal. Vessel arrived to Gioia Tauro on July 7, several hundred officers of Guardia di Finanza made a thorough check of all containers on board, some 1,500 units. Drugs weren’t found at first, but Guardia di Finanza already had information, that so to say, joint venture of notorious Calabrian mafia Ndrangheta and South American drug cartels invented a new scheme of trafficking drugs to Europe, which demands implication of ships’ senior officers. According to Italian media, criminal organizations recruited Master of MSC POH LIN, Guardia di Finanza officers found encoded messages identifying container with drugs. Container in question was shipped from Chile with transshipment in Balboa Panama, destined for Valencia, Spain. As of July 15, MSC POH LIN is still docked in Gioia Tauro.
