New Scandlines ferry christened in Rostock

May 4, 2016 at 08:05 by Julia Rudolph in Ship Building and Technology

About four years later than originally planned, the time finally has come: Yesterday, the new hybrid ferry „Berlin“ from Scandlines was christened. The ship’s godmother is the wife of Eckhardt Rehberg (CDU-Member of the Bundestag).

The ship has a Scandlines/Siemens Drive Technologies hybrid propulsion systems with ESS energy optimisation, Corvus battery packs of 2.7MW and AEC Marine closed-loop scrubbers.

With space for 460 cars or 96 lorries on two vehicle decks, the capacity is more than doubled on the route Rostock-Gedser. At the same time, Scandlines is simplifying and extending the timetable with fixed departures every two hours from both Rostock and Gedser (at 07:00, 09:00, 11:00 etc.).
