Some 57 freighters stranded on Chittagong anchorage

Up to 57 freighters are stranded on Chittagong outer anchorage by indefinite river workers strike, organized by Bangladesh Water Transport Workers Federation and Bangladesh River Vessel Workers Federation. It is understood, that lighter vessels crews are on strike, demanding wage increase and so to say, formal recognition of their existence, including identity cards, service books and social security. Government promised to solve the problem by May 10 latest. Meanwhile, according to local sources, all cargo operations on outer anchorage are suspended, including offloading of agriculture products.
