Product tanker BESIKTAS ORIENT towed to Brest

Product tanker BESIKTAS ORIENT reported to MRCC Corsen mechanical failure at 0537 LT Feb 20, in position 35 nm west of Pointe du Raz, western Brittany, France, Celtic sea. disabled vessel started to drift towards shore. Vessel dropped an anchor after 1400 LT being 24 nm off shore, trying to stop the drift. It is understood though, that the anchor dragged, and vessel continued drifting. Authorities required from owner to undertake measures, preventing drifting and possible grounding. Owner contracted salvage tug Abeille Bourbon. The tug took tanker on tow at 1710 LT, to tow her to Brest. Vessel arrived to Brest after midnight Feb 21, and was docked at around 0100 UTC. BESIKTAS ORIENT was ballasting from Yarmouth UK to Saint Nazaire.
