In the afternoon Oct 27 Russian Emergencies Ministry issued press-release stating that freighter NEWZENBERG asked for assistance after it seems, 5-day long drift, cuased by mechanical failure. Crew tried to fix problem by own means, but failed. Salvage tug Kaliningradets (IMO: 8227630) left Nakhodka port at 1535 LT, ETA to disabled NEWZENBERG 2200 LT Oct 27.

General cargo vessel NEWZENBERG was reportedly troubled in Japan sea en route from Busan Korea to Nakhodka Russia, on Oct 26 or earlier. Last known position dated Oct 22 in vicinity 40 24N 131 50E, some 150 nm due south of Nakhodka port, Russia. Vessel may reach Nakhodka several days ago (ETA was Oct 22), AIS could go off and that’s why vessel disappeared from AIS websites, but the problem is, no call of NEWZENBERG to any Russian Far East port is yet recorded by Russian Port Control System, which is registering all calls Russia-wide online.
