Bulk carrier LOS LLANITOS probably a total loss

Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) Mexico published photos of grounded by hurricane Patricia bulk carrier LOS LLANITOS, seemingly broken in midship area. It is understood, that salvage is under way, coordinated with combat pollution plan implemented by the authorities.

Bulk carrier LOS LLANITOS on Oct 24 ran aground on rocks near Punta Graham, Barra de Navidad, some 25 nm north of Manzanillo, Mexico, Pacific coast. Vessel was pushed aground by hurricane Patricia. Reportedly LOS LLANITOS suffered several hull breaches, including engine area, with ensuing water ingress. There were 27 crew on board, 19 were evacuated by helicopter, 8 remained on board to salvage vessel. On a photo grounded LOS LLANITOS . Vessel left Manzanillo, because it was considered safer to meet hurricane in high seas than in port.
