Allision and fuel leak, three tankers troubled in Elevsis

In the evening Oct 11 mooring lines of three tankers berthed in Elevsis port, Hellenic Petroleum terminal, were broken due to sudden weather deterioration. The crews and Hellenic Petroleum terminal staff managed to switch off fuel pumping and disconnect cargo hoses, but fuel remaining in hoses leaked into the water, causing some 500 sq. meters pollution. Tankers Aegean Rose and Eviapetrol IV allided, Aegean Rose suffered scratches and dent portside, while Menalon suffered dented and broken railings on the cargo deck. Tanker Menalon remained intact. It is understood, that all three tankers were stern berthed. Eviapetrol IV and Aegean Rose are detained for survey and investigation. At 0430 UTC Oct 12 all three vessels were in the same position docked in Elevsis.
