Thai coastal wooden fishing vessel KHF 1989 was hijacked on Aug 15 by armed with rifles pirates in Andaman sea some 40 nm west of Langkawi Island, Malaysia. Pirates forced the crew to move to pirates boat and ordered them to sail off, threatening revenge if the crew call the police. It is understood, that pirates hijacked vessel for ransom. According to fishermen and owner statement, cost of the vessel is about 15 million Baht, some $500 thousand, which is highly doubtful assessment, judging from vessel’s looks. On Aug 17 abandoned vessel was found docked in Ko Ta Ru Tao island harbor, north of Langkawi. Malaysian and Thai enforcement agencies are trying to trace the criminals, which are said to be some new gang, new boys in town, so to say.
