Major fire on board of a Japanese ferry Sun Flower Daisetsu
Ferry Sun Flower Daisetsu issued distress signal at 1732 Tokyo time Huly 31 off the coast of Honshu, reporting fire on board. Ferry with 71 passengers and 23 crew on board, en route from Tokyo area to Tomakomai port, Hokkaido, was some 30 nm off the eastern coast of Honshu, 15 patrol boats and 5 aircraft were sent to the distressed vessel. All passengers and crew were evacuated, no injures reported. One crew went missing. Fire started on a cargo deck in one of the trucks and went out of control, it is understood that it’s a major fire. There are about 160 vehicles on board, mostly trucks.
