Master of tanker sentenced for being drunk, Liverpool

53-year old Master of chem. tanker Quercianella was arrested by police in the morning July 6 as the vessel was leaving Eastham docks in Merseyside, UK, bound for Amsterdam. Pilot smelled alcohol breath and contacted police. On July 20 Master was given a suspended sentence of four months in jail and fined £1,000 at Liverpool Crown Court. Master has an impeccable record, he drank after a very stressful day, last drink took place at least two hours before departure. There were senior officers on the bridge, so actually, no risks were involved. Nevertheless, he was found guilty and sentenced.
