Freighter Chang Long disabled, nearly caught in typhoon

General cargo vessel Chang Long suffered mechanical failure some 45 nm west of Chedju do (Jeju island) Korea in Yellow sea late at night July 9, and was disabled facing the oncoming typhoon. Vessel was en route from Zhoushan China to Inchon, Korea. It is understood, that there was something of a panic among 18 Chinese crew, which was soothed by East China Sea Rescue Bureau radio talks. Salvage vessels were sent to the distressed vessel, Chang Long reached Lianyungang anchorage on July 10, under own power or under tow, but most probably under own power, escorted by salvage vessels.
