Car carrier fire, UK
Fire erupted on board of a car carrier Courage at around 2100 UTC June 2 when she was 40 miles off Harwich, Essex, North sea. It is understood, that the fire erupted on cargo deck or decks, loaded with commercial and US military vehicles, bound for Southampton en route from Bremerhaven. Crew activated CO2 firefighting system and flooded fire area with CO2, extinguishing the fire. Vessel sailed into English Canal and was ordered to anchor off Isle of Wight for inspection before being permitted to enter Southampton. Vessel was granted permission after checking its condition, and entered Southampton at night June 3. At 0400 UTC June 4 vessel was docked in Southampton. It is understood, that some of the cargo may be damaged.
