Bulk carrier aground, Port Arthur, Gulf of Mexico

US Coast Guard Port Arthur, Gulf of Mexico, reported grounding of a bulk carrier Jian Qiang in the afternoon May 27. Vessel informed USCG that it ran hard aground at 1330 LT, approximately 1 mile from the westernmost jetty, outside buoys 33 and 34. No significant damages or pollution reported. Salvage under way. At 0430 UTC May 28 vessel was still aground. Vessel loaded with sulfur was leaving Port Arthur, bound for Morocco.
