Bulk carrier aground in St Lawrence river
Bulk carrier Algoma Spirit at around 1415 LT May 16 ran hard aground on the south side of Cornwall Island, St Lawrence river, about a mile below international bridge, reported Great Lakes and Seaway Shipping. Traffic in the area was stopped. At 0330 UTC May 18 vessel was still aground with two tugs (Ocean Pierre Julien and Ocean Ross Gaudrault) nearby, with bow on the bottom and stern afloat. According to Great Lakes and Seaway Shipping, Algoma Spirit ran aground after losing power and a blackout.
