Fincantieri delivers first of three cruise vessels to Viking

The latest newcomer to the international cruise industry, California-based Viking Ocean Cruises has taken delivery of its first vessel. The 47,800grt Viking Star was handed over at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard on 28 March.

The first of three sisterships building for Viking in Italy, Viking Star will sail on her maiden voyage on 11 April, a voyage from Istanbul, Turkey, to Bergen, Norway, where she will be officially named on 17 May. The 930 passenger vessel will be joined in service later by sisters Viking Sea and Viking Sky, with Viking Ocean Cruises expected to order a further series of new vessel shortly.
