March 25, 2015 at 04:54 by Mikhail Voytenko in Accidents

General cargo vessel Kumala Endah (or Indah) sank off Belawan port in Malacca Strait in the evening Mar 24, after she struck an underwater object, reportedly a wreck. Vessel started to take in water, and sank soon after. 5 crew swam to the shore, 9 went missing, search under way. Vessel loaded with 700 tons of steel or iron ore left Belawan, bound for western Borneo. There are 11 vessels listed in databases with word Kumala in the name, all vessels belong to Indonesian Lautan Kumala company, but there is no vessel Kumala Endah or Indah. Either last word was misspelled, or vessel was recently re-named or acquired. Judging from the size of vessel and sizes of other Kumala vessels, vessel in question should be listed in databases.
