Fishing vessel Narval aground, Pacific ocean

March 1, 2015 at 05:18 by Mikhail Voytenko in Accidents

Fishing vessel Narval with 27 crew on board ran aground in the Avacha Bay, Kamchatka Peninsula, Pacific ocean, during the night Feb 28 – Mar 01, between Cape Shipunskiy and Bechevinka inlet, about 1 nm off the coastline. Rescue helicopter can’t evacuate the crew due to bad weather, with wind of some 14 meters/sec. The main problem with rescue helicopters is, Russia doesn’t have specialized marine rescue service, including helicopters, that’s why weather always hampers attempts to airlift distressed crews. Vessel reportedly suffered small damages, there’s no water ingress.
