Freighter Burcin with 333 migrants intercepted by Turkish Coast Guard in Med
Turkish Coast Guard intercepted on the night Jan 19 general cargo vessel Burcin with 333 migrants, mainly Syrians, on board. Vessel left Mersin, Turkey, Mediterranean sea, and was to deliver migrants to Italy. Vessel was taken back to Mersin, where migrants were disembarked. Vessel was intercepted after authorities got a tip-off. 4 Turks and 11 Syrians, suspected in human trafficking, were arrested. Migrants were delivered to freighter by small boats, meaning that the vessel was either at anchor off Mersin, or drifting.
