Freighter Phuong Nam 69 hit and run, Thailand

General cargo vessel Phuong Nam 69 ran over Thai fishing vessel Wassana Waree at around 0830 LT Jan 13 off Phuket Island Airport (northern Phuket), Thailand, Andaman sea. Freighter didn’t stop and continued sailing, 10-meter fishing vessel or boat sank, 3 crew jumped overboard and were rescued by nearby fishing vessels. Wassana Waree reported the incident to the authorities. Phuong Nam 69, en route Myanmar with 5000 tons of cement on board, was somehow intercepted and taken to Thailand waters for investigation. Most probably, owner of the freighter will pay to the captain/owner of Wassana Waree compensation, which he claimed is to be no less than 1.5 million baht (around $46,000).
