Bulk carrier Bulk Jupiter capsized, 1 rescued, 18 dead or missing, South China Sea

Bulk carrier Bulk Jupiter issued distress signal, or EPIRB was activated automatically, at around 2300 UTC Jan 1 in position 09 00N 109 15E, 155 nm east of Vung Tau, Vietnam, South China Sea. Vessel with 46400 tons of of bauxite ore was en route from Malaysia to China. According to all available data, vessel capsized and sank in a very short time, in minutes actually, due to cargo shift (which could be caused by liquefaction). 19 crew didn’t manage even to get out of cabins and compartments, Vietnam MRCC said two dead bodies were picked up, one crew was rescued, sixteen went missing. Search is under way.
