Freighter Elga-1 sank or sinking in Black sea
General cargo vessel Elga-1 issued distress signal at 1935 Moscow time Dec 3, reporting water ingress in engine room through faulty stern gland. Vessel was en route from Temryuk port Russia to Varna Bulgaria with 6000 tons of coal on board. Nearby offshore supply ship Sea Spider came to the distressed vessel at 2100. At 2312 Master reported, that the pumps can’t control water ingress, and that the engine room is flooding, he’s ordering the evacuation. At 2355 13 crew (all Russians) went to a life raft, at 0254 Dec 4 all were picked up by Sea Spider, no injures reported. Crew is to be transported to Novorossiysk, as of morning Dec 4 sinking vessel was still afloat in position 43 37N 030 04E, 97 nm east of Varna.
