Freighter San Cristobal sank en route to Galapagos
General cargo vessel San Cristobal sank presumably in the morning LT Nov 16 some 25 nm SW of Santa Elena Peninsula, Ecuador, Guayaquil Gulf, en route from Guayaquil to Galapagos islands. Rough weather and big waves said to be the cause of the disaster. 13 crew rescued, no injures reported. Vessel had some 1,000 tons of general merchandise on board, mainly food supplies and construction materials. 1 out of 7 containers on board was recovered.
