Offshore wind farm Meerwind Süd/Ost in operation
Germany’s first privately-financed offshore wind farm Meerwind Süd/Ost has been officially inaugurated on November the 10th in Bremerhaven. The 80 offshore wind turbines of the wind farm have been put into operation in September.
Currently the 288 megawatt wind farm is generating energy for 180,000 households and till the end of this year it will provide clean electric power for 360,000 householders.
The 1,3 billion EUR Meerwind Süd/Ost is located 23 km off the island of Helgoland. The wind farm was constructed in a record time of only 18 months and will reduce carbon emissions in Germany by approximately one million tonnes per year.
