​Vessel with animal feed cargo catches fire in Ireland

Yesterday the captain of the cargo vessel CIMBRIS contacted the Warrenpoint Harbour Authority Port Control and reported overheating of vessel’s animal feed cargo in the cargo hold.

Several units from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were immediately dispatched to the scene of accident. During investigation of the vessel firefighters discovered two fires originating in the animal feed cargo. Firefighters flooded the cargo of grain with carbon dioxide to extinguish the fire and were able to bring the situation under control. According to officials there were no risks to life or the environment.
