Eleonora Maersk took 200 migrants on a cruise around Mediterranean

Eleonora Maersk, which is, by the way, a mega containership, rescued more than 200 migrants on Oct 23, being directed to the distressed migrant boat by Maltese MRCC. Eleonora Maersk headed for Malta, to disembark the rescued migrants. In accordance with what may be already called a habit, migrants refused to disembark in Malta, and requested to be taken to Italy instead. Vessel obeyed, and cruise went on. It is understood, that the vessel called Italian port, and the guests finally, freed the vessel. As of morning Oct 29 Eleonora Maersk was steaming in the Atlantic off Lisbon, making up for lost time. Once again, this accident highlighted the risks involved with rescuing migrants in big numbers, by taking them on board of commercial vessels. Everybody and everything are in danger, from dire physical risks threatening the crew to collateral financial losses threatening the owner. Nobody cares, until some major accident or disaster happens, and even then not much would change, if anything at all.
