General cargo vessel Ivan Ryabov holed, Chukotka Sea, Arctic

General cargo vessel Ivan Ryabov with 1483 tons of general cargo on board, crew 19, struck underwater object in Zapadnaya Bay, Shmidt Point, Chukotka sea, Arctic coast west of Bering Strait, while changing anchorage site due to drift, in the evening Oct 23. Vessel suffered a hole in oil tank situated under the main engine, with water ingress. Main engine disabled. Early in the morning Oct 24 crew managed stop water ingress by plugging tank’s air pipe. Disabled vessel is anchored in 68 55,92N 179 37,80W, staying on both anchors. Rolling with list up to 20 degrees. Salvage vessel Lazurit (IMO 8832590) steaming from Vrangel Island to assist, ETA morning Oct 25. Weather stormy, snow flurry.
