Livestock carrier Ocean Drover fire, Fremantle
Fire started in the superstructure of a livestock carrier Ocean Drover, berthed at Rouse Head in Perth's south, just before 8:00am (AWST) on Oct 9. Fire believed to start in crew’s accommodation area and quickly spread in superstructure. Two crew were hospitalized, with burns and smoke inhalation. 16 fire teams and port tugs were engaged in fire fighting, it took them some 12 hours to extinguish fire. vessel is said to be heavily damaged and in need of extensive repairs, which will take months. Luckily, there were no animals on board, vessel was to load 6,000 sheep in Fremantle, and take on more livestock in Darwin next week before sailing to Indonesia.
