Product tanker Orapin 2 hijack

Sept. 30, 2014 at 10:30 by Mikhail Voytenko in Maritime Security

Product tanker Orapin 2 was hijacked by pirates in South China Sea on Sep 17 in position 01 26N 104 50E, while en route from Singapore to Dili, Timor Leste, though it’s not clear why vessel sailed so far north if she was bound for East Timor. Vessel was loaded with gas oil, which was pumped out to two smaller tankers, which came alongside Orapin 2 shortly after she was boarded and taken under control by 8 armed pirates. Crew was locked, and robbed of all valuables, from money to phones. Pirates damaged navigation and communication equipment. Vessel sailed to waters of Johor State, Malaysia, after pirates left. Crew unharmed.
