Freighter Lizanne fire

Sept. 19, 2014 at 07:41 by Mikhail Voytenko in Accidents

Fire erupted in a forecastle compartment of a general cargo vessel Lizanne, docked in Miami, in the afternoon Sep 18, with thick clouds of smoke billowing from forecastle. Some 50 firefighters fought the fire for 2 hours before they put it under control. Fire was fought both from shore and from seaside, from firefighting trucks and boats. It is understood, that there were welding works in bow area, which may be the cause of the fire. Most probably, fire spread to a storage room in forecastle where bosuns usually keep paints, solvents and other utilities required for painting works.
