Ro-ro vessel Super Shuttle RoRo 7 capsized and sank, Manila
Ro-ro vessel Super Shuttle RoRo 7 capsized and sank around 1900 LT Sep 14 during the typhoon Luis passage outside the breakwater of Manila Bay. Information on the circumstances if the accident is confusing and desultory, some say vessel was trying to enter the port, some say vessel was docked in the port, while others say vessel was docked in the area for more than a year, being under repairs. According to AIS, vessel was sailing around and she doesn’t look like she was anchored in a lay-up or docked for repairs. Probably vessel was trying to enter port, but wasn’t able to cope with strong wind and waves, lost steering control and was dragged onto the breakwater. Vessel is resting portside in the bottom, with half of the hull above water, according to a photo. 15 crew is safe, according to Philippines CG. Seven were rescued from a life raft, the rest managed to swim ashore holding on to debris.
