Grand Pioneer and AAL Fremantle broke moorings, hitting the bridge, Fremantle
Car carrier Grand Pioneer and general cargo vessel AAL Fremantle broke their moorings in North Quay, Fremantle, at around 2300 LT Aug 17 when a storm hit Fremantle. Bow mooring lines held, stern lines broke, it is understood that both vessels swung around stern. AAL Fremantle allided with bunker tanker Parmelia 1 and then hit the Fremantle rail bridge, inflicting serious damages. Train traffic was closed. Power line running through bridge was also damaged, leaving thousands of people without electricity. It took tug or tugs several hours to secure vessels back to piers.
