A mess in Basel, Rhine

Swiss river cargo vessel Merlin loaded with gravel capsized in the morning Aug 4 on the Rhine in Basel area, causing a mess and closing river traffic. To avoid drifting Marlin, cruise vessel Olympia (EU No. 08046009) changed course and allided with docked passenger vessel Lafayette (EUNo. 01822624). Olympia and Lafayette suffered damages, passengers were safely disembarked, no injures reported. Both vessels docked in Basel for inspection and repairs. Capsized Merlin was secured and towed to Basel, its’ four crew rescued. River re-opened for traffic.
