Malaysian tanker Ji Xiang attacked, one crew shot in neck, Singapore Strait
Malaysian product tanker Ji Xiang was attacked by pirates in the evening July 25 in Singapore Strait, 2.5 nautical miles northwest of Teluk Ramunia, Malaysia. Seven armed Indonesians boarded the vessel and robbed crew of cash and personal belongings, shooting one of the sailors in the neck during the attack. Malaysian patrol boat approached tanker, pirates fled and managed to get to the waters of a neighbouring country. Hurrying to escape, pirates left two pistols and a machete on the tanker. The International Maritime Bureau described the seafarer’s injuries as minor. 14 crew included 7 Myanmar, 1 China and 6 Indinesian nationalities.
