​Giant PIETER SCHELTE to be completed in Rotterdam

Port of Rotterdam has signed an agreement with the offshore company Allseas about the complementation of the giant ship PIETER SCHELTE in Maashaven, Rotterdam.

The ship of special purpose is expected to arrive to Rotterdam by the end of 2014 and to be finished in the Alexiahaven. The PIETER SCHELTE will be deployed for installing and removing topsides and jackets of large offshore oil and gas platforms.

With its length of 382 meters and width of 124 meters the PIETER SCHELTE is considered to be the biggest ship in the world. Vessel’s lifting capabilities are remarkable: it can lift topsides of offshore platforms weighing up to 48,000 tons and jackets of 25,000 tons.

The unique vessel is being built at the South Korean shipyard Daewoo and has a value of 2,3 billions EUR.
