Japanese bulk carrier Amakusa Island ran aground in Prince Rupert

Japanese bulk carrier Amakusa Island ran aground shortly after 2200 LT July 14, in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada. Vessel left coal terminal and ran aground while proceeding to anchorage, developing a visible list after grounding. Amakusa Island was refloated some four hours after the grounding with high tide, assisted by tugs, and anchored in safe waters. At 0300 UTC July 17 vessel was in the same position, anchored on Prince Rupert road.
