Capesize Marigold suffered fire in engine room, Australia

At around 1500 LT July 13 fire erupted in engine room of a South Korean capesize bulk carrier Marigold, berthed at Finucane Island, Port Hedland, Western Australia. Vessel was loading iron ore. Fire was extinguished by sealing engine room and flooding it with inert halon gas. Two crew members, one of them South Korean Chief Engineer, suffered burns and were hospitalized, one in a bad condition. Crew was evacuated and allowed back to vessel in the evening. The cause of the fire and extent of the damages are yet unknown.
