Trawlers collided off Peru, nine drowned, three people missing
Nine fishermen died and three crew members are unaccounted for after two trawlers collided in the Peruvian waters.
As reported by the navy spokesman, the accident happened after midnight Monday approximately 13 nautical miles from Pisco. Due to the collision the fishing vessel MARISOL II capsized, leaving 15 people in the water. Another vessel involved in the accident - Tasa-147 remained stable and was not damaged. Three rescue boats were dispatched to the scene of accident, 12 divers were involved in the searching operation.
The boat that stayed afloat belongs to the fishing group Tasa, the world’s largest fishmeal producer.
