Collision in Bay of Gibraltar

Last week in the Bay of Gibraltar occurred a collision: the bulk carrier CAPE MED collided with the general cargo vessel LE SHENG off Algeciras.

The incident took place when the CAPE MED left Gibraltar and was heading to Puerto Drummond and the LE SHENG was approaching Algeciras.

The Chinese-flagged cargo vessel LE SHENG ran into the port side of the CAPE MED and its bow was damaged. The Panama-flagged CAP MED suffered a breach in a ballast tanker area what caused a water ingress. The tugs SALVAMAR DUBHE and LUZ DE MAR were dispatched to the scene of incident. Both vessels were detained by the Maritime Authority and anchored in the Bay of Gibraltar for investigation.
