​Ferry and cargo ship collision in Hong Kong, 35 injured

35 passengers were injured when the high speed ferry UNIVERSAL MK 2013 collided with a Chinese cargo vessel yesterday in Hong Kong.

Accident occurred just off the island Cheung Chau at about 11:00 pm local time. At this time the UNIVERSAL MK 2013 with 162 passengers on board was making a scheduled trip from Hong Kong to Macau.

As reported by the shipping operator, the ferry was moving at around 40 knots and didn’t change its course. After the collision the high speed catamaran departed to the terminal on Hong Kong Island, a cargo ship which has not been identified officially remained at the place of accident. The cause of the collision is under investigation.

The injured passengers were sent to the local hospitals. It is understood, there were no serious or life-threthening injures, one person remains hospitalized.
