Bangladesh ferry accident
A Bangladeshi ferry capsized and sank in storm yesterday afternoon on the river Meghna near the capital of Bangladesh Dhaka. The ferry was carrying about 200 passengers on board and was heading to the southern district Shariatpur from the Bangladeshi capital.
As reported by officials the death toll has risen to 22 persons, hundreds of people are missing. Bangladesh rescuers dragged out the body of a child, as seen by divers many bodies remained inside the wreck of the sunken ferry. Most of the passengers were city workers and students who were going home for the weekend.
The sunken ferry stays 50 feet down into the river Meghna and a salvage ship is trying to drag it to the bank. Firefighters and members of the coastguard including divers are involved in the rescue and search operation.
