Vessels collide off Hong Kong, 11 people missing

The container vessel MOL MOTIVATOR collided with the cargo ship ZHONG XING 2 today at around 02:22 a.m. of local time in the southeast of Hong Kong.

According to Hong Kong’s marine department the cement-carrying ZHONG XING 2 may have sunk after the collision. One crew member of the vessel was rescued by a fishing boat, the rest 11 people remain missing. A search and rescue operation is underway.

The MOL MOTIVATOR was en route from Hong Kong to Yantian port. Currently the status of the vessel is unclear, as reported by officials the container vessel experienced some damages but could continue the sailing. You can monitor the vessel's moving in FleetMon Explorer:


The cause of the accident is being investigated by the authorities.
