April 29, 2014 at 10:19 by Svitlana Slavina in Accidents

South Korea's President Park Geun-hye apologized today for the government's „insufficient first response“ to the sinking of the SEWOL (sea our previous news). Ms Park said that the government didn't prevent the disaster and failed the rescue operation.

Government agency, crew members and owners of the ferry have come under public criticism and anger since the released videos that show crew members telling people to remain in their cabins and coast guard helping the captain to abandon the sinking ferry.

According to the officials the death toll in the SEWOL ferry tragedy has exceeded 190, 109 people remain unaccounted for. Reasons of the incident are still unclear.

The Captain of the ferry and 15 crew members who were taking part in navigation of the SEWOL are now under arrest and facing punishments.
