Plan to expand world's largest offshore wind farm scrapped

London Array, the world's largest offshore wind farm, located in the Thames Estuary, will not be expanded due to a requirement for a study of its impact on birds.

The consortium of owners (50% DONG Energy, 30% E.ON UK Renewables and 20% Masdar) said that a study to assess the potential impact to birdlife from the wind farm expansion would take a minimum time of 3 years, with an uncertain outcome. As a result, the plans to add over 200 megawatts of capacity to the wind farm have been scrapped.

The London Array offshore wind farm consists of 175 turbines delivering a capacity of 630 MW and is operational since April 2013.
