On its way from the Turkish shipyard Sanmar to the Norwegian port Karsto the 36m long Borgoey, first tug worldwide that runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), has been refueled in the port of Zeebrugge on 17 February 2014.

The refueling operation from truck to ship was a first in Zeebrugge and a full success for all parties involved.

In the course of the implementation of stricter emission regulations the importance of alternative fuels is increasing. This trend also effects the shipping industry.

The vessel Borgoey was ordered by the Norwegian company Bukser og Berging AS and is the world's first tug running on LNG. Using LNG as fuel helps to reduce the exhaust emissions dramaticly, especially regarding the nitrogen oxide and particulate matter.
