Update: Svendborg Maersk lost up to 520 containers
The total number of containers that were blown overboard the Svendborg Maersk last week has been determined (see our related news). Due to the heavy weather conditions the container vessel lost about 520 containers on the 14 February in the Bay of Biscay.
On February 17 the container vessel was docked in Malaga, where after the examination an astounding number of lost containers was discovered. The vice president of operations for Maersk Line said, the Svendborg Maersk experienced unexpected stormy weather and the all necessary examinations and corrections would take place to prevent similar incidents in the future. It was also reported, that 85% of lost containers were empty and none of the boxes was loaded with dangerous goods.
