Freak Wave hit Marco Polo - Cruise passenger killed

Cruise Ship Marco Polo was hit by a freak wave the 14th of February 2014 between 1 and 2 pm local time while the ship travelled through Friday's severe storms.

The extraordinary large wave hit the ship on the side and caused breaking of 4 windows and water ingress. A 85 years old cruise passenger died, a second passenger was injured and airlifted for medical treatment on shore.

The Marco Polo was on its way from the Azores to its homeport Tilbury, UK, where it arrived the 15th of February at late night.
