March 25, 2013 at 12:57 by Svitlana Slavina in Accidents

Not long after its construction in 1972 the fishing ship Katmai was lost on its way to Alaska. In february 1972 the 65-foot vessel with its crew of 4 members left Mobile, Alabama, USA. On board of the ship were Oskar Joos with his wife and eight-year-old child  as well as a deckhand Clinton Hollevoet. As officials said the ship never reached its destination and was believed to have sunk.

In december 2012 the submerged vessel was discovered in 8,920 feet of water approximately 200 miles in the south of Mobile. It was sent for further investigations and subsequently was recognized as Katmai vessel that disappeared in 1972.

The families of the lost crew have been informed now and thus the 40 years old puzzle of vessel's disappearing was solved.
