Cruise ship SEA LION damaged after hitting uncharted rock
The NAT GEO SEA LION cruise ship hit an uncharted rock off Panama City, damaging the hull and a propeller. Luckily the damage was not more severe, and nobody was injured in the incident.
It shows the need for updated survey coverage on
charts that, even if not to the gold standard of a multi-beam survey, is
either better than the existing survey data (often done by lead line
and sextant) or fills in unsurveyed areas?
