Cruise liner Marco Polo holed after grounding, Norway

Cruise liner Marco Polo ran aground on Mar 9 13 off Sortland, some 90 south of Tromso, Norway, with 1117 passengers on board.

The Vessel touched the bottom while leaving the port, and suffered a hole in ballast tank area. Marco Polo returned to Sortland.

Cruise liner Marco Polo is an ex Alexander Pushkin, second in a class of Ivan Franko passengers vessels built in East Germany for Soviet Union. Five vessels were built, all named after Russian, Ukrainian and Georgian most famous poets and writers, and only one lives to present day. The vessel is a classic passenger liner of the 60-th.
